Overseas Registration Exam (ORE)

What is the structure of the ORE Part 2?

Four components: a Dental Manikin assessment (3 hours), an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), a Diagnosis and Treatment Planning (DTP) exercise, and a Medical Emergencies (ME) assessment including a scenario-based viva and basic life support demonstration.

How much do the ORE exams cost?

For 2026/27, ORE Part 1 is £485 and ORE Part 2 is £6,967, plus a £115 application processing fee. VAT applies and fees are not normally refundable. Always confirm current fees on the GDC website.

How many attempts are allowed for the ORE?

Candidates are allowed up to four attempts for both Part 1 and Part 2.

Can I practise at a facility before the exam?

Yes — our academy provides access to manikin equipment and hands-on courses designed to replicate the exam conditions and ergonomics.

How do I book my ORE exam?

From the 2026/27 year, candidates book their ORE sittings through their MyGDC account. We help you stay on top of booking windows and deadlines.

What is the rule for completing the ORE?

You must pass Part 2 within five years of passing Part 1 to remain eligible for registration.

License in Dental Surgery (LDS)

What are the major changes to the LDS in 2026?

From 2026 the LDS assesses the GDC's Safe Practitioner Framework. Part 2 changes significantly, while Part 1 and Part 3 keep their format but update content to align with the new framework.

How is the LDS Part 2 structured in 2026?

Part 2 has two sections: a 12-station OSCE (seven minutes per station) and a Structured Clinical Reasoning (SCR) examination of six 20-minute cases. You must pass both in the same sitting.

What replaced the ‘Unseen Cases’ in LDS Part 2?

The Structured Clinical Reasoning (SCR) examination, which assesses diagnosis and treatment planning through direct interaction with an examiner.

What does LDS Part 3 involve?

A single day with a 180-minute operative assessment on a dental manikin, testing practical clinical dental skills. From May/June 2026 it is aligned to the Safe Practitioner Framework.

How much do the LDS exams cost?

RCS England fees for 2026 are around £900 (Part 1), £1,575 (Part 2) and £1,525 (Part 3), with increases from the autumn 2026 sittings under a pricing restructure. Always confirm current fees on the RCS England website.

Are there attempt limits for the LDS?

LDS Part 1 allows up to four attempts (three re-sits); Parts 2 and 3 allow up to three attempts each (two re-sits).

What is the completion timeline for the LDS?

You must pass Part 2 within five years of passing Part 1, and Part 3 within five years of passing Parts 1 and 2.
